April is IBS Awareness Month

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a condition that affects the digestive tract.

Around 2 in 10 people in the UK are likely to experience 6 or more episodes of IBS each year.

Those with IBS can suffer with a range of symptoms, including stomach pains and cramps, bloating, diarrhoea, and constipation. The symptoms come and go over time, tending to last anywhere from one day, to months at a time.

This disease can be frustrating to live with and can have a big impact on everyday life. Medicine and changes to one’s diet can help control some the symptoms.

There is no known cause of IBS, but the condition has been linked with food passing through your gut either too quickly or too slowly, oversensitive nerves in your gut, stress and a family history of the condition. IBS is also thought to be common in cases of Fibromyalgia.

Can CBD help?

There has been some initial research to suggest that CBD may also help with IBS, largely due to it being anti-inflammatory but as the cannabinoid is also commonly used to help with stress management.

Keeping as stress free as possible and sticking to an IBS-friendly diet can help reduce the symptoms, according to experts. More and more people are starting to see the benefits of CBD.

Cannabinoid receptors can be found all over the body, including in the gut. Ingesting cannabinoid products, such as CBD oils and gummies, could help with digestive symptoms.

Research has discovered that cannabinoids have anti-inflammatory qualities. These properties could make CBD a good method of treating gastrointestinal condition, such as IBS.

A review in 2020 has suggested that CBD could hold potential therapeutic benefits for these conditions.

What’s the best way to take CBD?

Consuming CBD in the form of an oil, capsule or food item could be the best way to help. Edibles are often a tasty way to get CBD into your system, but oils are often the quickest.

Taking CBD oil sublingually is one of the fastest ways to absorb CBD into the bloodstream.

The oil is absorbed via the thin mucosal membrane in the mouth and bypasses the first pass metabolism, acting quicker than a capsule which needs to be processed by the body once swallowed.

Unlike when taking an edible, you can feel the benefits in 20 – 30 minutes. With edibles, you may be waiting an hour or more to feel any benefit.

Don’t just take our word for it, one of our lovely customers Marcus said:

“The Peppermint Oil drops have worked wonders. Being diagnosed with IBS has been a struggle, especially in the early days. For me, it was a case of trial and error of which foods I can and cannot eat. However, when I do suffer from an IBS flare-up I now turn to CBD, especially CUBID CBD. The peppermint oil drops have a palatable after taste but not only that, the cramps and bloatedness do subside after consuming CBD sub-lingually”

A tip from us:

Another reason why we recommend this particular oil to those with gut issues is the carrier oil. Our unique formula includes hemp seed oil. Other tinctures on the market utilise MCT oil, which is a fractionated coconut oil.  The combination of peppermint extract with hemp seed oil is going to be more stomach friendly.
