In celebration of American Independence Day we want to give our friends across the pond the credit they deserve.
Americans have always been trendsetters, but CBD isn’t just a trend, it’s so much more than that. I think we owe our North American cousins a pat on the back that no longer aches thanks to CBD!
Cannabis has been used throughout history, but the true CBD story only began in the 1940s when American organic chemist Roger Adams isolated the CBD compound.
By the mid-’70s, us Brits was referring to CBD tinctures for medical use, but the medicinal effects of CBD were really publicised in America once the inspirational story of Charlotte Figi came to light. The young girl’s rare seizure disorder was treated with CBD.
In the years that followed, debates, studies and political developments finally lead to the first CBD medicine gaining FDA-approval in 2018.
Today CBD is legal in 50 states and American advocates continue to spread the word about this incredible compound. The industry is booming, more studies are underway and we are learning more and more each day.
We are still trying to educate the public about CBD and we have a long way to go until it is fully accepted. But we owe an awful lot to our friends over in the USA for paving the way and leading by example.
Well done America, and happy July 4!
